Dr. Alejandro Badia using the McGinley Augmented Reality device
Always keeping up to date with the latest technologies that benefit our patients. Check out our latest addition, The McGinley Augmented Reality device. Where we get to see the ultrasound anatomy super imposed onto the patient. Here’s a quick video of one of our recent patients getting his PRP injection guided by augmented reality ultrasound!
How’s this technology used?
This technology is basically a pair of googles that projects an image in front of the provider, but still allows us to see as you would through a normal pair of glasses. We are currently using this for ultrasound images, particularly during injections, and may use it for the fluoroscopy in the future as well.
Benefits of using this new technology
The benefit to this new technology is that the provider does not need to turn their head away from the patient while injecting. Previously, we would have to position the needle looking at the patient’s injured area, then turn our head away to look at the ultrasound screen, turning back and forth. This makes the injection take longer, as it is more difficulty to position (AKA potentially more pain for the patient). This new technology that Dr. Badia invested in will allow us to do injections and procedures without having to turn away from the patient.
