International Society for Sport Traumatology of the Hand ISSPORTH - Dr. Alejandro Badia Hand Surgeon
On February 7, 2012 the International Society for Sport Traumatology of the Hand (ISSPORTH) met for the first time on U.S. soil, right here in Doral, Florida at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa. "It was a great meeting of the minds, and it was amazing to hear about the cutting edge treatments that are being offered around the globe for our athletic patients", says Kate Samuels, PA-C. Physicians from Estonia, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Switzerland, and U.S. spoke on topics such as common injuries of tennis players and golfers and other common wrist injuries seen in athletes.
Dr. Alejandro Badia, Symposium Chairman and current ISSPORTH President, lectured on "The Jammed Finger: Athletic Injury Term to be Abolished". This term encompasses many different medical diagnoses, which are often overlooked and may require surgical intervention. Other lectures given covered topics such as "Ulnar impaction Syndrome in Adolescent Tennis Players" by Dr. Badur, who practices in Switzerland, and "Jersey Finger Avulsions in Contact Sports" by Dr. Pereira, who practices in Brazil. The symposium served as an open forum to allow surgeons, sports medicine physicians, therapists, and athletic trainers from around the world to discuss these injuries and the success they have had with their treatments.
