Dr. Alejandro Badia performed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in Physiology. He obtained his medical degree at New York University where he subsequently completed his Internship in General Surgery and Residency in Orthopedic Surgery. He went on to a Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. This was followed by a traveling Hand Fellowship in Europe through the AO Trauma Association. He is a founding partner of the world renowned Miami Hand Center that now includes 5 hand and microsurgeons, a pain management anesthesiologist and team of hand therapists. He has recently inaugurated Badia Hand to Surgery Center, a full service center for the upper limb including extremity MRI imaging, digital radiography, therapy, and surgical facilities located under one roof in Doral, Florida.
Dr. Badia also runs a prestigious hand surgery fellowship that has trained surgeons from five continents and he conducts a small joint arthroscopy course at a laboratory within the center. He also organizes a yearly conference in Miami that brings together both surgeons and therapists to discuss hand/wrist/elbow joint replacement and arthroscopic procedures. The meeting will soon be held at the DaVinci Center, founded by Dr. Badia and 8 other partners, a unique surgical training center with emphasis on hands-on learning in surgical techniques. DaVinci Center will be the world’s largest and technologically advanced cadaveric surgical training lab.
He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association for Hand Surgery and numerous other national and local medical/surgical societies. He is also honorary member of multiple foreign hand surgery, orthopedic and arthroscopic surgery societies including those from Italy, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, Bolivia and Colombia.
Dr. Badia is on the editorial board of the journal, “Techniques in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery” as well as the journal “HAND” and serves as Vice President of the surgeon advisory board for Small Bone Innovations, the largest implant company serving the hand surgery market.
He has several patents pending and has developed surgical instruments as well as arthroscopic equipment specifically designed for small joints. Dr. Badia has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and written several book chapters besides lecturing abroad in nearly twenty-five countries.
His hobbies include travel, scuba diving, weight lifting, running, boating and ballroom/salsa dancing.
